OCSiAl is the only company with a scalable technology for industrial synthesis of graphene nanotubes

OCSiAl is the world’s largest producer of graphene nanotubes. In addition to the synthesis of nanotubes themselves, we create industry-friendly technologies for their use in various materials.

Our team consists of more than 200 employees located in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Our Mission

To change all materials and make the world better

OCSiAl’s mission is to improve specific properties of all base materials,* making the world a better place for all living beings.

We are pursuing this mission by developing universal nanotube solutions and introducing them into the manufacturing industry. This is leading to the creation of a new generation of nanoaugmented materials and end products, whose previously unobtainable properties will become the standard for consumer expectations.

Enhancing the specific properties of materials could radically reduce their “price per property.” Less actual material would be needed to create more effective products. This fundamental shift is expected to play a crucial role in the necessary reduction of carbon emissions, helping to halt the degradation of our biosphere and allowing people throughout the world to raise their standard of living and reap the benefits of modern civilization.

Base materials are materials with a chemical composition substantially different from that of raw materials and with an annual worldwide production output exceeding 0.1 million tonnes.

Why are we called OCSiAl?

The name OCSiAl consists of the symbols of four chemical elements. Three of them are the most abundant elements in the Earth’s crust: oxygen (O), silicon (Si) and aluminum (Al).

The fourth element, carbon (C), is a special element, fundamental to life and nanotechnologies. It is predicted to change the face of modern-day technology in the very near future.

We believe that carbon nanomaterials – graphene nanotubes and graphene sheets – will form the core of future changes.

Our History

OCSiAl’s history began in 2009 with the question “Is it possible to create an industrial technology for synthesizing graphene nanotubes scalable to hundreds of thousands of tonnes per year, and to significantly reduce the price paid by consumers by 100 times?”

In 2010, the OCSiAl company in Luxembourg was established to overcome this challenge.

2013

On 14 November, the company launched Graphetron 1.0 – the first industrial-scale facility for graphene nanotube synthesis. With a capacity of 1 tonne of TUBALL™ per year, it became the world’s largest facility.

2014

On 12 May, OCSiAl’s core product – TUBALL™ graphene nanotubes – was introduced to the market at the Institute of Minerals, Materials and Mining in London.

2015

The company opened two new offices — one in South Korea and one in the USA.

2016

In September, after being registered in compliance with the European Union REACH regulations, OCSiAl became the world’s only company authorized to commercialize up to 10 tonnes annually of single wall carbon nanotubes in Europe.

2016

In November, the company signed the first contract for the sale of 1 tonne of TUBALL™.

2016

OCSiAl launched nanotube-based (downstream) products.

2016

Branches were opened in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

2017

Further development of the synthesis technology. Production capacity increased and costs substantially reduced.

2017

In July, the Luxembourg Government and OCSiAl have signed a memorandum of understanding for a new TUBALL™ synthesis facility and R&D center project in Luxembourg.

2017

In December, the US Environmental Protection Agency approved OCSiAl’s application and authorized the production and sale of up to 25 tonnes of TUBALL™ nanotubes per year in the USA.

2018

The basic design for the Luxembourg synthesis facility was completed.

2018

Annual sales volume doubled.

2019

Technology scalability verifiedOCSiAl advanced synthesis technology to unlock production unit scalability up to 50 tonnes.

2019

In July, OCSiAl joined the ranks of unicorn companies with a valuation of $1 billion.

2019

On 10 December, the second TUBALL CENTER, in Shanghai, was opened.

2019

In December, OCSiAl’s regulatory status with the US EPA took a major step forward with the publication of a SNUR in the Federal Register covering OCSiAl’s products, allowing TUBALL™ to be commercialized in unlimited volumes.

2020

In April, OCSiAl upgraded its dossier under the EU’s REACH legislation and expanded the volume authorized for commercialization in Europe up to 100 tonnes of TUBALL™ nanotubes annually.

2020

The third TUBALL CENTER was opened in Luxembourg.

2022

OCSiAl received approval for the plant in Luxembourg.

2023

OCSiAl started the construction of a plant in Serbia.
